Learn More About Soccer Positions Here
Soccer positions are of paramount significance when one decides to play soccer. Soccer is a game played among twenty-two players, eleven players on each team; with one goalkeeper and ten field players in total on each team. The goalkeeper's role is somewhat self explanatory; this player's role is to prevent goals from scoring. He plays in the goal with special gloves and commands his six yard box with authority. The goalkeeper also sets what is called a "wall" when a free kick is given against his team and depending on how far from goal the spot kick is given; the number of persons in the wall varies. This soccer position is one of the most important positions on the field and in the game.
The other ten players' positions vary depending of the formation the team chooses. The position of the sweeper or central defender is also a soccer position that is very important as he protects the goalkeeper and covers for other defenders by making critical tackles and interceptions. The man markers play in front of the sweeper and their primary responsibility is to prevent the opposing forwards from scoring. The wing backs or full backs play on the left and right side of the defense and they play an integral part of the team's attacks and defense.
The midfielders and forwards positions are pivotal in the team's attacks; build up and in the creation of scoring opportunities. The midfielder's primary responsibility is to supply and create scoring opportunities for the team's forwards, which in turn scores goals.
